Letter From Bishop DiMarzio
Dear Friends in Christ,
What blessings you bring to your parish and the Diocese of Brooklyn, as you demonstrate your Catholic faith through acts of faith, hope and charity.
Today marks the beginning of the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal, the time once again when Catholics of Brooklyn and Queens come together to support diocesan ministries. As we begin this effort, for guidance and inspiration, we embraced the message that Pope Francis shared in his first encyclical, The Light of Faith (“Lumen Fidei”) leading us to choose as the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal theme:
Our Holy Father reminds us that faith is a light that dispels darkness. “The light of faith is unique, since it is capable of illuminating every aspect of human existence.:
Your gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal dispel the darkness as you help to illuminate so many aspects of human existence. Through your gift, you feed the hungry, clothe the needy, strengthen parishes throughout our diocese, provide funding for Catholic Migration Services, support social outreach programs, bring the presence of Christ to hospitals, colleges and prisons, while providing for retired priests and educating and training future priests. You also provide scholarship assistance for faith-based education and support dozens of other outreach efforts all within our diocese in Brooklyn and Queens.
Pope Francis tells us that “Faith opens the way before us and accompanies our steps through time.” May faith open the way as you consider once again being an essential part of the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal with a sacrificial pledge.
Please know that you and your family will be remembered in my prayers.
Sincerely in Christ,
MOST REVEREND NICHOLAS DIMARZIO, PH.D., D.D.
BISHOP OF BROOKLYN
