Annual Catholic Appeal
Annual Catholic Appeal – 2013
Dear Friends in Christ,

Allow me to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity to your parish and the Diocese of Brooklyn during this past year. You are a true example of faith inaction.
As we approach this early Lenten season, Catholics become increasingly focused on sacrifice and a renewal of faith. Sharing what we have with our brothers and sisters is fundamental to our lives as Catholics. I am pleased, therefore, to announce the beginning of our 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal.
This year’s Appeal theme, Renewing Our Faith Through Acts Of Charity, celebrates the Year of Faith, as declared by Our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, to help Catholics appreciate the gift of faith, deepen their relationship with God and strengthen their commitment to sharing their faith with others. Hopefully, as we reach out to the newcomers and the other residents of our Diocese, our witness of charity will make a difference.
Your generous gesture will be used to support Catholic Migration Services, Vocations Support, Chaplaincies and Faith Formation. Further, your gift will help Catholic Charities with the relief they are providing for victims of Hurricane Sandy, provide scholarships for families and children that were displaced by the storm and help parishes that were severely affected by the storm. Brooklyn and Queens still stands among the top of New York’s lowest income families. With neighborhoods such as the Rockaways, Breezy, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Gerritsen Beach, Canarsie and Coney Island being affected by the Storm, we find that the needs will be even greater this coming year.
As you reflect upon God’s goodness to you, it is my hope that you will renew your support of our most urgent ministries by giving as generously as you are able to do. All I ask is that you let the Lord be your guide and to do the best that you can to help us assist those in need right here in our own neighborhoods. Whatever the amount of your gift, you may be assured that your generosity is deeply appreciated as your gift helps to bring strength, hope, love and Christ Himself to others.
Kindly use the enclosed pledge/gift card and reply envelope to make your commitment to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. You are encouraged to consider a ten-month pledge, although one-time gifts are, of course, accepted. Please know that you and your family will be remembered in my prayers and I ask that you continue to remember those affected by Hurricane Sandy in your prayers as well.
Thanking you for your thoughtful consideration and asking the Lord to extend His choicest blessings upon you as we begin this New Year, I am,
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D.
Bishop of Brooklyn
